Macarsca

"We next touch at (2 hrs.) Makarska (Hôt. Hrvacka), a brisk town trading largely in gran, the capital of the Primorje. From this point (or better from the village of Baskavoda, 6 M. to the N.) we may ascend the Sveti Jure (St. George; 5781 ft.), the highest peak of the Biókovo Mts., commanding a very extensive view (12 hrs. there and back; guide 4-6 K.). To the right, farther on, is the island of Lesina; then the long peninsula of Sabbioncello. The steamer touches at Gradac and Trappano, enters the Narenta, and passes Fort Opus and the Torre di Norino, the latter built by the Venetians" (p.303).
